Makr Shakr: Robotic Bar
Event / Social experiment
Makr Shakr is an innovative social experiment: a robotic bar, able to prepare drinks based on crowd input. Robotic arms serve customers, who can customize their drinks, or order pre-defined drinks through a mobile app. The robot also measures and the popularity of some drinks, which is shown on a large screen of data visualization above the bar, along with waiting time and other information. Makr Shakr can also refuse people when they have had too much to drink – the system monitors the customer’s drinking and their approximate alcohol rate.
SuperUber developed the data visualization and creative technology – interfacing between design, code and hardware. The project is a collaboration between MIT Senseable Lab, Pentagram, SuperUber and Kuka. The futuristic project premiered at Milan Design Week 2013 in Italy and participates in events around the world, such as Google I / O 2013 in San Francisco, USA.
