OctoCloud installation
Interactive mapped sculpture
The installation game OctoCloud is a sculpture mapped with projection lighting where up to 8 visitors interact using their smartphone or tablet. Players use a simple slingshot mechanic to fire projectiles on the game surface where they see the virtual and real worlds merge – the projectiles slow down and speed up as they ascend and descend the physical slopes of the sculpture. The intersection of experiences continues with the player’s mobile device. The interface sends the players commands to the game while the game provides feedback to the device; for example, as objects are destroyed the game screen explodes into an animated performance that visually extends to the player’s mobile screen.
The installation was commissioned through the Creators Project, which celebrates creativity, culture and technology through the work of visionary artists around the world. The sculpture has been shown in Barcelona, San Francisco, Beijing, Moscow, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
